A nice stay

Hilton Garden Inn St Louis Shiloh/O'Fallon IL

We were here several days for a wedding in town and I have no concerns about our stay. All staff were welcoming and a few gave out treats. One of my dogs is a service dog and the staff were understanding about not engaging him when he was working. Our room was clean, and no issues with the sound. Especially nice is a paved trail around the pond behind the hotel, just shy of a 1/2 mile loop, with some tall natural grass areas to sniff through.

a nice break

Outlets Williamsburg Dog Park

Driving through here often and this is a nice break for the dogs. It's not a big park but it's free and a way to stretch the legs. The fence is not high, if you have a jumper, it's a 4 foot fence I think. There's a nice, local, pet store in the shops we like to stop at too called Fetch. The staff there are great.

A lot to explore.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site

Our boys became Bark Rangers here, we could explore the town and see a lot of the people and buildings from President Hoover's upbringing. The sidewalks in the recreated town are wooden slats and got really hot in the summer, but there is grass right next to it so their paws were okay. In the back of the park there is a nice prairie trail and more history. This was one of the more friendly Bark Ranger experiences we had, very grateful! We've gone a few times now

Okay, but...

Dempsey Dog Park

Free park with no gate access code. A small and large dog area separated by a fence. We stopped here during a road trip. The park was full of landmines and I didn't see anyone else picking up after their dog. Other parents there weren't as friendly. One person brought a dog who was aggressive. The license plates in the parking lot were all local so I assumed the users there at the time might be regulars.

A quick walk, gorgeous views

Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse

At a minimum you want to do this for the photos Even in late winter, early spring, when the snow is melted and nothing is green yet, the view is amazing. There are quite a few stairs to get up, which should be expected considering the location, and a very short, paved trail. The fence along the bluff has some gaps so keep your dogs leashed for safety.

Nice space!

O'Fallon Dog Park

Things to know before you go: this park does not have a gate with a code, perfect for us traveling through. You have to go to the left side of the park entrance as far as you can, park, and walk down the trail about 0.15 mile to get to the entrance. There is a large and small dog area, they share no fencing and there is a path between them so if you bring more than one dog it's difficult to supervise both areas. Other park guests were very friendly and welcoming and the park is pretty clean. Usually this time of the year there are a few 💩 hidden under the snow but even after it melted I didn't have to avoid any landmines. Pretty big space with a shelter and picnic tables. Being your own water and bowls, there were some there but there is also signage asking visitors to remove them. 4 Bones instead of 5 due to the walk thru wooded areas to get to the park which was full of wildlife. A beautiful walk but a lot to handle if you have a dog who loses his mind over critters.
