I have a dog named Fred (#FredtheBestDogEver), who came to me via the San Antonio Humane Society. Fred is now 4 years old (Guesstimate DOB 4/4/14). At last weigh-in, Fred was a trim 91.6 lbs. His breed: maybe a mix of Rhodesian Ridgeback and Black Mouth Cur, but sometimes I just tell people his breed is San Antonio Street Dog.

Great shade from over a dozen mature pecan trees.

Barky Park

This is my favorite dog park in the area. One of the main reasons is because it's mostly grass instead of dirt and rocks and because of a dozen or so giant pecan trees. This makes it usually at least 10 degrees cooler than it is other places in town. There are seven concrete benches scattered about and all of them except for one are in the shade most of the day. It's not usually very crowded which might be good or might be bad depending upon what you want. I also frequently see Eastern Bluebirds, along with Carolina Wrens and Golden-fronted woodpeckers flitting from tree to tree. The dog park is located at the entrance to Starke park and if you want to drive further into the park, there are some really nice picnic areas along the river. On the other side of the street (you have to exit that way) there are more picnic areas, a disc golf course, and a children's playground. It's a great place to hang out or stop for a rest while traveling.
